Lubbert Gnodde was born in 1977 in Urk, The Netherlands. He began his organ studies, at the age of ten, with Wouter van den Broek. While studying with him he won two first prizes in the organ competition for young organists in Flevoland, The Netherlands. He has also studied piano from the age of 16.

In 1995 he went to the Conservatory of Amsterdam to study organ and church music. His organ professors were Hans van Nieuwkoop, Pieter van Dijk, Jacques van Oortmerssen and guest teachers Jean Boyer, Hans Ola-Ericsson among others. Furthermore he has attended several masterclasses and courses with teachers such as Michael Radulescu, Montserrat Torrent, Andrès Céa-Galan and Ludger Lohmann.

He completed his Bachelor study with honours, with a recital in the St. Laurens church in Alkmaar. He started his Masters study with a term at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris with Michel Bouvard, and received this degree with honours, after a recital in the Great St. Bavo church of Haarlem. In 2000, he became organist of the Cavaillé-Coll instrument of the Augustinus church in Amsterdam.

Following his Masters study, he studied two and a half years in Lyon, France, with Louis Robilliard and obtained his 'Prix de Perfectionnement' with a 'mention très bien à l'unanimité du jury'.

Lubbert Gnodde is thoroughly familiar with historical performance practices of early music, as well as with the aesthetic of the French Romantic School of organ playing. Performing experience consists of numerous organ recitals in Holland, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland and France, concerts with choirs/ensembles as an accompanist and participation in various organ competitions. In 2000 he obtained two first prizes in the national organ competition of Leiden. In 2005 he won first prize with honours at the International Schnitger Organ Competition in Alkmaar, with an additional mention 'exceptional' for the second round. In 2007 first prize was obtained at the International César Franck Competition in Haarlem where Marie-Claire Alain was a member of the jury.

In 2002 he took part in the first performance of the oratorio 'Das Buch mit Sieben Siegeln' of Franz Schmidt. In 2005 he performed the 5th symfonie of Louis Vierne in Brussels, which was broadcast on public radio. In 2006/2007 there were performances during the International Organ Academy in Gothenburg, the Organ Academy of Fribourg and in international organ concert series in Holland.
