JAMES LISNEY
PIANO

Over the past two decades James Lisney's fabulous pianistic command and musical integrity have fuelled a career that has placed him at the forefront of English pianists. In recent years, his ambitious and innovative Schubertreise series at London's South Bank and his Europe wide Beethoven Project, have established a position of authority in the classical repertoire that places him in a direct line to the great British pianists of the past century.

He enjoys a richly varied musical life, equally at home either in recital or as concerto soloist. The past season has seen performances and recordings at some of Europe's most distinguished venues, such as the Berlin Philharmonie, London's Wigmore Hall, the Leipzig Gewandhaus and La Palau, Barcelona; and festival appearances in Bucharest, Bremen, Galway and Cambridge.

The forthcoming season will see the release of recordings of music by Chopin, Brahms, Enescu and Beethoven's late sonatas (as part of an ongoing complete series); he will be a featured artist at the Galway International Schubert Festival; in Amsterdam; he will be taking part in the seventieth birthday celebrations of Dutch composer Jan Vriend; and he will be continuing to present his Masterworks series at several major venues throughout the United Kingdom.

James Lisney’s virtuosity, communicative flair and profound musical values have seen him at the helm of many important initiatives, including the formation of an award winning record imprint, Woodhouse Editions and the artistic direction of several festivals and concert series that aim to present classical music in intimate and non-standard venues. These same qualities have placed him at the centre of a distinguished group of colleagues that include Dame Emma Kirkby, Paul Barritt and Alexander Baillie.

'I've nothing but praise for James Lisney's piano playing; he combines velvet touch and wide range of colour with complete understanding of phrasing and dynamic shading, This is someone who can really give the mechanical box of wires and wood a singing soul.' The Telegraph
