Charlotte Riedijk is rapidly becoming one of the most critically and publicly acclaimed sopranos in Europe in both her recital and opera performances. She has sung as a guest soloist with leading European ensembles including Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Modern, the Asko Ensemble, Schönberg Ensemble, Nieuw Ensemble, Kammerensemble (Stockholm), the Osiris Piano Trio and the Altenberg Trio of Vienna. Her recital partnership with Joanna McGregor is legendary. She has performed works dedicated to her by various composers at the Holland Festival, Graz, Frankfurt, Viitasaari, Finland, and at the Stockholm New Music Festival. Following her debut at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival in 2001, where she sang Messiaen's Harawi accompanied by Joanna MacGregor - acclaimed by the press as 'the best classical concert in Ireland in 2001' - she was immediately reinvited there for 2002 and 2003. In 2006 she returned to Ireland, again to the Festival, performing music by Shostakovitch.
In 2004/05, two major works specially written for Charlotte by Klas Torstensson (In grosser Sehnsucht, for soprano and piano trio) and by Klaas de Vries (Deep Blue Marine, for two percussion, harp, actress and soprano) were premiered successfully in Amsterdam's Concertgebouw. Last season she performed Poulenc's La Voix Humaine with the Holland
Symfonia (staged by Monique Wagemakers); undertook a tour of Scandinavia with the Osiris Trio,
concerts with Vienna's Altenberg Trio; starred in the solo role of the opera production based on
In grosser Sehnsucht with Opera OT as part of the 2007 Rotterdam Opera Days Festival, and a
new chamber opera by Rob Zuidam (Der Hund). Future plans include concerts with Amsterdam
Sinfonietta (Russian repertoire), performances of Torstensson's Urban Songs and a new opera by
Param Vir, Black Feather Rising (October 2008).
Her versatility also encompasses early 20th century music: Schönberg's Das Buch der hängenden Gärten and his Second String Quartet; Berg's Seven Early Songs and Altenberg Songs; and Webern's Songs for Soloist, piano and orchestra including his Opus 13 and 8.
In opera, Charlotte has long distinguished herself as Susanna, Despina, Euridice and Satirino. A more modern-age milestone was her highly acclaimed appearance as Anna Charlier in Torstenssons opera The Expedition. She premiered it in 1999 under Peter Eötvös at the Holland Festival, then took it triumphantly to Stockholm and the Ultima Festival in Oslo.
Charlotte Riedijk has worked with many of today's leading conductors: such as Alan Gilbert, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Stefan Asbury, Ingo Metzmacher,
Hartmut Haenchen, Lev Markiz, Emilio Pomárico, Julian Reynolds, Peter Rundel, Ed Spanjaard and Lucas; with the Flemish Radio Orchestra, Holland Symfonia, the Dutch Radio Chamber Orchestra, the WDR Symphony Orchestra of Cologne, the Swedish Radio Symphony, the Stockholm Royal
Philharmonic amongst others throughout Europe.
Charlotte Riedijk has broadcast frequently on radio and television throughout Europe.
The following works are obtainable on CD: Urban Solo/Urban Songs
Torstensson; La Disciplina Boogman; Seven Romances after poems by Alexander Blok op 127 Shostakovich; The Expedition Torstensson; and Cinq Chants d'Amour for soprano and orchestra Arthur De Greef (KTC 4013).
The recent concert premiere of Charlotte's latest CD In grosser Sehnsucht, also written by Klas Torstensson, was widely acclaimed and is also now
available on Cobra Records (0018).
A major point in Charlotte’s international career was her triumphant debut recital at the Vienna Musikverein in June 2008, accompanied by Ellen Corver. This will be followed up by her American recital debut at Carnegie Hall in the Spring of 2009.
