An orchestra made up of seven fleet-footed musicians, led by a uncompromising conductor, plays the stars from the sky. Composer Tarján and director Corvers play with the conventions of a serious concert with the light and humorous tone for which they are known. Who has the honour of shaking hands with the conductor and who doesn't? What happens when a musician looks away from his music for just a second? Tarján composes and conducts. With this production, a long-held wish to give his beautiful music all the space it deserves, is finally fulfilled.

To do justice to the mixture of styles which Tarjàn makes use of, the enthusiastic ensemble is composed of jazz and classical musicians. The music reminds one of the high sprinted swing of the 1930's and of the melancholy of klezmer. Sometimes one hears a snatch of classical music, at other times it sounds like a brash “muppet-orchestra”. But the music always speaks directly to the heart. Het Filiaal creates various forms of music theatre for family audiences. The productions of Het Filiaal tour with great success not only in Dutch and Flemish theaters, but internationally as well, the group continues to receive much acclaim. Characteristic is the collaboration between director Monique Corvers and Canadian/Hungarian composer Gábor Tarján. In their work they bring together professional actors, musicians and visual artists. The loving precision and sense of humour with which text, music, acting and visuals are then integrated, has come to be the trademark of Het Filiaal. In their productions, Corvers and Tarján greatly enjoy just touching on styles such as musical, world music, vaudeville or a classical concert, while maintaining their own unmistakable signature.

The company's work is highly appreciated by both adults and children. Het Filiaal gets rave reviews from the (national) press and is recognized and structurally supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture & Science, and by both the Province and City of Utrecht.
